"Americans for Job Security commends Reps. Steve Womack and Jackie Speier for introducing the Marketplace Equality Act. Amazon is exploiting a decades-old tax loophole that allows online retailers to not collect state sales tax. This means Amazon sees record revenues with its preferred tax status while small and community-oriented Main Street retailers foot their bill and struggle to stay alive. The Federal government must stop picking winners and losers in the marketplace and institute sales tax fairness that levels the playing field for small businesses once and for all."
